Homage to the New Falcon

Okay, not really. From what I saw today on the balloon, she flies MUCH faster than Mothra. But DAMN she big. (at least compared to the 535g of attitude that is Anakin) All 1160g of her is chillin’ on the screen perch right now. imgp1331lowres.JPG

She’s actually incredibly sweet, which makes her the antithesis of my last hybird, Khan. As a perfect polar opposite it also seems that where Khan terrorized me and cowered at suitable game, she is well-mannered (thank GOD! that beak is frightening), but looking for anything avian to smash.

And no, she doesn’t have a name just yet…well…outside of her current nickname, “Lumpy,” based on her unfortunate hairdo.

HAHA 1160 grams is JUST under the flying weight of my first Red Tail. Are you sure she isn’t part pterodactyl?

    Hmmm…………could it be??

Hey Rebecca, great looking falcon! Come up with a name yet? Here are my submissions: “Lawless”, “Calamity” or “Gritz”. Will DU be sending its best and brightest (that would be you) to the NAFA meet? Think of all the support you could gather there!

My mother has told me that she will disown me if I “continue to call Her Highness ‘Lumpy’.” No name yet though… River Tam — an assasin that has been brain washed and damaged? Pretty name, but no. Calamity and Lawless are both cool. But I had a dog named Callie and I’m not sure there’s a good shortening of Lawless… What is Gritz from?

  5. Ken says:

Gritz(s)=Girls Raised In The South or just a girl with grit like in the movie True Grit. I guess that z on the end should have been an s but I like it with a z. My first red tail was named “Pierce” as she pierced my glove when I took her off the B.C. She was evil. My current Harris is named “Sancha” it means “the other woman” in spanish. She is sweet as can be. I also have a gyr/ peregrine named “Bullet” as in as fast as a…..

    Amarillo?

  6. rebecca says:

Oh yes, Amarillo. I had planned on getting to the NAFA meet this year, but we’ll see if it’s a possibility with the new job, new responsibilities, new place to live… I would love to be there. I’m just not sure yet!

    Ms. Rebecca…

I enjoy your blog! Do you use bird dogs when hunting? I’m very fascinated with falconary and birds of prey!

I hope you post some photos this Fall of your adventures afield!

I thought the whole point of the blog was to name her Mothra? No? It’s a pretty good name.

She’s a great looking bird. Looks like a giant peregrine. Usually the gyr makes these hybrids look more desert-falcon-ey to me. I wonder what she’ll look like as an adult.
